Our muses and escorts,  parents, our students, friends, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening.

It is always my privilege to give inspirational message to the University Science High School students for I always see in every USHS student a dream to pursue a big dream.

Our world is faced with issues that threaten human beings. A contracting global food supply, severe constriction of many economies that are heavily dependent on expensive imported fuel, the visible damage to the natural environment that are sometimes apparently due to our search for more food and fuel, the growing destructiveness of natural calamities that visit many continents including Asia which could be linked to the damage to the natural environment.

  To ensure that our journey is not derailed, we need the answers that will help our nation, not only to cope and survive, but to overcome and triumph. 

The challenges are serious but undaunted.  With the Science and Technology behind us, the aspiration can be a reality despite the odds. We look Science and technology to do many other things to put food on the table, to save the lives and prevent calamities, to harness renewable resources and indigenous energy, to cure and prevent illnesses and to create more high quality jobs.

The challenge is how to overcome these. 

I would like you to translate your imagination to reality.

What is imagination? It is the ability that you have already created or pictures or ideas in your mind that are new and exciting.  In order for us to go from imagination to reality, we need to fill the gap with three ingredients of success.

First, the goal setting- A goal is a picture or idea which you create in your mind with the hope you can see it, you can have it.

The second ingredient is Action Plan- Once you have set your goal, you need to start building your bridge towards your new and exciting reality. Rome was not built in a day, neither is the success story of your life.  Success is not like an accident waiting to happen.

The third ingredient is Perseverance.  Half the battle is already won when you show up.  You will need staying power to cross the finish line.  When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.  Even a tortoise can finish the race if it doesn’t give up.  The Wright brothers never gave up on their dream to fly.  Truly your persistent attitude will determine your attitude and reach.

My dear students, keep your dream alive.  Never, ever, give up on your dream. You are the captain of your soul and master of your destiny.
